PVPA is a regional public charter school serving 400 students grades 7-12, from over 60 towns throughout Western Massachusetts. We seek to connect the creative process with critical thinking to inspire a love of learning. As a charter school, the work we do informs educational policy at local, state and national levels.
We invite all PVPA applicants to present a 2-minute demonstration in one of the following areas:
1. Memorized dramatic monologue from either an existing or original play or story (not poetry).
2. Memorized song:
You may use non-vocal musical accompaniment (tape or instrument). A cappella singing is also acceptable (no lip-synch).
3. Instrumental selection:
You may use any of the above musical forms, but no improvised rock music. A drum set and a keyboard are available for demonstrations. Drummers should plan to bring their own drumsticks.
4. Dance selection:
You should bring taped musical accompaniment. No gymnastic “dance” or floor work.
5, Scenic, costume, lighting, or stagecraft presentation based on a play (not fashion design):
Be prepared to give a 1-2-minute oral presentation outlining your role in the production work of a play and explaining the items in your presentation. Cue sheets for lighting or stage management and/or playbills showing production credits may be used to support your oral presentation, though they may not be used to replace the bulleted items above.
Video presentations are not permitted.
